Why Is State Sen. Pam Galloway Playing Cozy With Concussions?

With almost every issue I can see (to some extent) each side of the argument.  I may have strong feelings about a proposed policy or piece of legislation, and yet be able to see how someone from the other side might differ and come to an opposite conclusion.

I can do this most times.

But there is no way for me to find any rationalization for the continual undermining by State Sen. Pam Galloway of the proposed youth concussion bill.

The latest insertion of her mis-guided fingers into a much-needed piece of legislation came today when Galloway introduced another amendment.  This time the Northern Wisconsin legislator wants to exempt club sports from the bill.

The problem with this might be clear to anyone who deals with such operations.  Those involved with club sports are just less educated and knowledgeable about the dangers of traumatic brain injuries.  That is not a slap at anyone, it is just a fact.  When dealing with concussions, and the larger impact they may have on an individual there is no reason not to have the best rules and regulations in place.

The legislative session is winding down, and this bill is truly one that both sides of the aisle should be able to give support to, and send on to Governor Walker for a signature.

The State Assembly already passed the measure which has the strong support from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association; the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health; the Medical College of Wisconsin; Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin; the Marshfield Clinic; and the Brain Injury Association of Wisconsin.

Oh, the bill also has the support of the Green Bay Packers!

I know that legislators make strange deals with all sorts of interests to carry favor come election time.  (Again, I can make arguments why this may or may not be a good idea.  I can see in both directions, even when I do not agree with an outcome.)

I am totally at a loss as how to explain the clearly wrong-headed direction of Pam Galloway concerning this bill.  This is the first time that an elected official has cozied up to a concussion for political support.

It is just not a pleasant image to send the residents of the state.
