Jay Bakker (Son Of Jim And Tammy Faye) Works For Marriage Equality
This should be encouraging to everyone.
The son of televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker Sunday led a rally encouraging North Carolinians to vote against the marriage amendment on the May ballot.
Jay Bakker joined other religious leaders and members of the community in a rally at the Trotter Building.
“My parents taught me to love people across the board and always be open to people. They were always into equality and reaching out to the marginalized and things like that,” he said.
Bakker lives in New York working as a pastor and is unable to vote on the state amendment, but said he still felt strongly enough to make a push to voters.
“I ignored all these amendments being passed and passed until it hit my hometown and I was like. So I just automatically, when I heard about it, I called down here and offered my help.”
The proposed constitutional amendment would identify traditional marriage as the only domestic legal union recognized by the state.
The rally is in sharp contrast to the message from other faith-based pushes regarding the marriage amendment, including from the Catholic Church.

Jay Bakker told me he thinks Jesus was ignorant of our modern conception of marriage.
I found that interesting…
