Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr, Being Treated For Alcoholism In Arizona

July 11, 2012

This information should have been released from the congressman’s office.  It was not, and therefore the media found sources that would talk.   This whole episode does not reflect well on Jackson’s office operations.

NBC News reports that missing Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. has been found.

The 2nd District Congressman reportedly has been In Arizona receiving treatment for alcoholism in Arizona, according to Andrea Mitchell.

Jackson Jr. went on hiatus from congress a month ago, on June 10, and his office released a statement nearly two weeks after that saying he was being treated at an undisclosed location for exhaustion.

This is the first information as to his whereabouts since the office issued.

I wish the guy a lot of luck in his struggle, whether or not he decides to stay in public life. One unprecedented thing to come out of this was shown on WGN news today. Jesse Sr. actually walked by the cameras and news media at his Rainbow conference and out of the room without stopping to talk, I imagine because he didn’t want to get asked about Jr. Two maxims of U.S. political life: you never want to get between Jesse Sr. or Chuck Schumer and a microphone, nor between Mary Hubler or Bob Jauch and the rib pan at a state political fundraiser, for fear of being trampled in either case.

His top aide in the office would be working on how to handle the messaging with a media relations staffer. Aides carry much more clout than your comment allows for. I am just saying that a release from the Jackson office–in the tone and with the message being delivered first to the media–is far better than the “where is Jackson” story that has been going on for weeks only to have the media dig to the point they got answers. What is most puzzling to me is the fact the Jackson family–and I have long admired his dad–are all media savvy.

Why rag on his office operations? Anything they’re release would have to be with his approval. If he’s gone to rehab that means his body and brain are definitely to a crisis point, no one in a state like that is thinking clearly (other than the wise choice to get help and start to end the destruction) But judgements like when and how to put out press releases and all, I’m sure he’s been thinking “tomorrow will be better< I'll decide then" Or who knows, I'm not a fan of the guy – I could give a donkey's behind what he does or happens to him. But making things right and owning up to those in your life (or the public) is not Step One. But I don't get how you are so eager to Blame The Help.
