Is Jonathon Brandmeier Secure As WGN Morning Man?

July 6, 2013

UPDATEBrandmeier no longer morning man at WGN radio.

This news caught my eye.

When a radio station plans a remote broadcast for the morning man, in this case Jonathon Brandmeier from WGN radio, one might expect that the announcer would be present and in charge of the affair.  Not so in the case of the remote taking place in Skokie on July 12th.

WGN Radio personality Bill Leff will be broadcasting live from downtown Skokie during the Jonathon Brandmeier show.

So lets review.

One of the hottest names in radio has a remote planned, and let us not forget staging of these takes time and effort.  But Leff will be broadcasting the show because Brandmeier “is on vacation”

Unless there is some family situation that has taken Brandmeir off the air all this past week, and now for a second week, one might have to ask the big question as massive changes are underway at WGN radio. Is Jonathon Brandmeier secure as WGN morning man?

Time will tell.

I just happen to feel, and the ratings seem to support my view, that Brandmeir is  out of synch with the WGN radio audience.

I can’t wait till he leaves, a listener for over 25 yrs, can’t understand why they put him on at this time, so juvenile

Brandmeier makes waking up easy as without him there’s absolutely no need to listen to radio- especially in the morning! Plus the only advertising WGN radio does is for Skilling on Garry Meier so some aren’t even aware he’s on the air. I enjoy the entertainment as I can use a break from all the horrible crimes occurring all over this city at all times of the day. Maybe most of you posters like to live in doom and gloom in all the bad news to start your day and should appreciate one that can actually make you smile and laugh! It’s people like you that need to go away not the radio personality that brightens the start of the day!

We’re old ‘fuddy duddys’ who have listened to WGN radio since Wally Phillips days. He was our morning ‘go to Guy’ while getting ready to go to work. Now with Johnny B – we’re no longer working, just trying to get our day started. He drives us NUTS! He makes no sense, even for young folks, he isn’t funny, he tries too hard and thinks he’s funny – not so! Please, back to Cochran or someone like him. We can’t handl jibberish in the a.m.

The sooner he leave WGN the better. He is a total mess and just don’t belong with an adult audience. Make him go away.

Brandmeier may not be a great fit but he makes an effort to be a apart of Chicago and opens up about his life. He has some kinks to work out in the show but overall I like him.

My hope is that Steve Cochran is not making making a return. I hate the way this guy makes every interview about himself.

When Johnny B was on WLUP the first time, the last couple of years he was actually broadcasting from California every day. He and his producers would send faxes back and forth to make it sound like he was still in Chicago.

He’s out of synch because he is not really communicating. He’s doing schtick. Meier, Leff and Noonan are light and even silly but are doing talk.

I for one will be happy to see him go.

    He doesn’t belong on WGN.

How might WGN pay the bills without the ads? Reaping the benefits is not just with ratings but that then translates into ad rates. One goes hand in hand with the other, and you seem to want to take one of the hands away during morning drive or at least limit it at one of the most lucrative times during the radio day.

If WGN would let Brandmeier do his thing and not insist that he shut up for weather, news, traffic, commercials, hog futures – whatever! – every 2 minutes, they would reap the benefits. He hasn’t been given the opportunity to synch with the audience because he isn’t allowed to be Johnny B. I started listening to ‘GN in the mornings because of Johnny and in the afternoons because of Garry. I prefer my radio personalities to be allowed to actually have a personality.
