Sound Journalism To Place Dzhokhar Tsarnaev On Cover Of Rolling Stone Magazine

July 17, 2013

There has been much blow-back over the decision to place a picture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the Boston Marathon bombers, on the front cover of the latest edition of Rolling Stone.    ‘How dare you!’ might sum up much of the outrage over the picture.  But as with so many other things which are emotional at the very start, there is a much more reasonable and important part to the story.

In fact it is the story itself that needs to be read, and considered by this nation. The article asks the question that many have grappled with for years as radical Islamic elements have become more and more a headline maker. What makes an otherwise typical and ordinary person a religious zealot with a bomb, intent on utter destruction and bloodshed?

The fact Rolling Stone places a nice photo of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who is a handsome young man on the cover underscores the question, and as such should demand of us all a search for answers.

Betcha the decision to put the bomber on the cover was business decision and not a journalistic one.
