Mike McConnell No Longer On WGN Radio!
It should be noted that Mike McConnell never registered very high on my radar. I found him to be dry and most uninteresting while on air at WGN radio. His views were too conservative, and did not seem to mold to the city from which he broadcast. Therefore I am delighted that the management has yanked him from the airwaves. One can only hope that the sound foundation that once was the norm for WGN is slowing starting to re-emerge. Much applause was sent up from this blog when Steve Cochran was back with WGN, and I trust other sound decisions will be made to honor the long tradition of remarkable broadcasting that this station has been known for.
With that said here is something worthy of praise.
After months and years of rumors and unfavorable comments from listeners, Mike McConnell is finally gone from the WGN Radio airwaves, although he is not yet gone from the station. Still working under a long term contract that was given to him in 2010, McConnell will now be working online-only for WGN Radio’s website, doing live shows and podcasts.
McConnell has not been heard on the air for WGN-AM since late last month. He has been “on vacation” since that time, replaced by a series of fill-ins. McConnell himself announced today on his Facebook page that he is moving online for the station. He will continue to do his radio show from 10:00am-2:00pm, but that show will only be heard on the WGN-AM website’s secondary stream, WGN-2.

Very happy that Mike McConnell is not on the airwaves any longer on WGN; yes, I am aware I can change the channel……….I did when he was on (also in the morning with Johnny B.-seriously the sarcasm king of the airwaves/disgusting to say the least and not funny). He was nasty, disrespectful, and not open to other opinions; actually, an on air bully. So looking forward to the new line-up!!! My radio will be on all day again……..tuned to WGN.
I think both Mike Mc Connell and Gary Meier are the best personalities you have on your station and it would be ashamed if you let either one of them go. They are interesting to listen to, not like some of the people you have.
Hooray!
