Former Democratic Party of Wisconsin Spokesman Graeme Zielinski Has Third DUI

Drinking and driving is a topic that infuriates me.  So when I read this story about former Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesman Graeme Zielinski I knew it needed to be posted.  If I ripped others for abhorrent behavior over drunk driving then I also need to do the same when it came to Zielinski.   There is no leeway from me when it comes to this crap.

While I have long felt Zielinski made the Democratic Party look silly while employed with it, I know he makes even more dreadful news with the latest DUI.

I come at this issue with a desire to see society be more responsible in a broader sense by limiting the number of liquor licenses it grants, and fostering a healthier attitude that good times need not require intoxicating beverages.  That in no way means I am eager to return to Prohibition, but I do suggest a more rational response to the way alcohol is consumed, as it would be a positive turn for our state.

As such when I read about drunk driving it makes me upset.  My sister’s best friend was killed by a drunk driver, and so I know the impact they make on the lives of law-abiding citizens.    It is from that point of view  that I find the following nauseating.

Zielinski’s tweets foreshadowed the Democrat’s impending citation for his third operating while intoxicated, an unsafe lane deviation, and driving an automobile with expired registration.

On June 2, 2013, Zielinski was pulled over in Jefferson County by the Wisconsin State Patrol. According to Wisconsin Circuit Court records, Zielinski was driving a car with expired Texas license plates. The registration had expired in 2009.

Zielinski’s interesting tweets come after Journal Sentinel columnist Dan Bice announced Zielinksi was back on social media. Zielinski tweeted “.@DanielBice-my friend is offering me an Old Fashioned at his cookout. I’m not driving. You okay with this?” That was May 31st. Two days later, Zielinski is accused of driving under the influence.

Earlier on May 31st, Zielinski asked Bice, again on Twitter, if former Republican Party staffer Nicole Tieman was still in jail. Tieman served a jail sentence for her second drunk driving offense. Two days later, Zielinksi’s operating while intoxicated could land him in jail for up to a year.

Being a liberal Democrat does not require me to carry water for the party. There is no way not to think of the Democratic Party when hearing or reading of Zielinski. And whose fault is that? If I had posted this story without such a reference it would have been a glaring omission that would have looked like I was trying to be political with this DUI. I might suggest that if anyone has a problem with the party being linked to Zielinski they need to contact Mike Tate and inquire why the party spokesman was not fired the first time be was a statewide embarrassment for them. Zielinski may be a continuing stain on the party but that is not due to folks like me who write a story with the facts, but those who allowed the stain to be created in the first place.

Zielinski is not an employee of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin so why do you have to put DPW in the headline? Zielinski was fired. Can’t you move on and leave the party out of this story ?

no, windy. it can only happen to the irresponsible. You never drive after drinking. Why would anyone ever want to? Even in the most wild days of a misspent youth I never got behind the wheel. None of my friends did either. Nothing better than a long walk home in the crisp Wisconsin air to sober up before bed.
