Mowing Lake Monona

June 11, 2014

If I were a kid the sight at this time of year on Lake Monona would be one that would catch my attention and draw me closer to the shore so to watch the action as lake weeds are removed.  But there is nothing adults can smile about when it comes to the way we mistreat and harm our lakes that surround Madison.

There is no doubt that we are mighty blessed to have the four lakes in this area, and to have the sights and sounds associated with the lakes as part of our lives.  But we take them for granted far too often, and do not push hard enough or loud enough to make sure that environmental policies are enacted to protect them.  There is no way that the level of lake weeds we have in Lake Monona should be considered ‘normal’ and part of the way things just happen to be.

This is what it looked like today.
