Rick Santorum Takes Vile Shot At Islam

I was not surprised that someone who makes their money by operating a Christian film studio would then go after President Obama and President Bush by claiming both men have “given all Muslims a pass” when it comes to holding the religion as a whole accountable for the actions of Islamic terrorists.

“I’m not saying all Muslims are terrorists, but we have an obligation to face the truth about who the enemy is and what they want to accomplish”, said the tight-assed Republican Rick Santorum while speaking at of all places, Liberty University.

No one need dig very far to expose the hate and bile from Santorum when it comes to Islam.  No one has ever accused the former senator of being a student of history or interested in becoming enlightened about the world around him.

It is not at all in the interest of the United States to have someone who might harbor Potomac Fever to be abusing their position for partisan gain to make such outlandish and straightforward lies.  Instead of whoring himself in front of Liberty University it might be more prudent to have Santorum ask for some quiet time with the likes of Karen Armstrong or Reza Aslan.  They could start to educated him about religion and Islam.

Santorum has long been an embarrassment but now is becoming a danger at a time when the Middle East is roiling.

  1. Just for the sake or argument, why not explain what is wrong with what he said. Ideas don’t vanish because you say the speaker is hateful or that the idea is hateful. To dispell an idea requires an argument.

At best, “terrorism” is the expression of the sickness within that culture, just as school shootings and similar tragedies are the expression of sickness within Western culture. To suggest this does not defame western culture or western people. In my school we have institutionalized seeking individuals who suffer and preparing for any consequences. Why would we not do the same when it comes to those instances where terrorism might affect us and our interests?

We ignored the problem for quite some time and the result was world-changing. What is wrong with reminding people–as Santorum does–of the need to face the continuing reality of things? I suspect that if you did not place Muslims in a protected class, you might, like Santorum, be more concerned about terrorism, the treatment of women in the Muslim world, and the treatment of homosexuals. Because you wish to keep them in this protected class, you seem to sidestep these real problems. Women and homosexuals are treated far better by the Catholic Church, for example, but you are still concerned.

Part of what frustrates me is the entire contradiction I see in Liberal thinking when it comes to these matters. Why are standards different from group to group?

  2. Tom,

It is the same old song that Billy Graham and now his son sing. It is the same thing that too many politicians who have some desire to lure a certain demographic use to gain favor. What gulls me is that people who have no idea what Islam is about places terrorism and that religion in the same sentence. I am against those who abuse the religion and act with terrorisms as their method to impact the world. But in no way is Islam the problem–it is the people who bastardize who are to blame. Meanwhile today I read that Washington National Cathedral and five Muslim groups have announced that the first celebration of Muslim Friday prayers (Jumaa) at the cathedral will be observed on Friday, Nov. 14. I just can not tolerate the Santorums who work to foster the darker side.
