What a Week In America

June 26, 2015

Rarely does this nation have such dramatic and profound moments all grouped within one week such as the one we have just lived.  As a news junkie and politico, a gay man in a 15-year partnership, and a proud American and Democrat I am simply moved and inspired by all that has happened.

Same-sex couples can now marry in all 50 states, the Confederate flag’s historic hold has been stripped away from what once seemed a political hold that could never be removed, and Obamacare is stronger now than ever after some tried to dismantle it in a pure partisan move.

One of my favorite books from back to my high school days comes to mind.  The Glory And The Dream by William Manchester is a driving and powerful reminder of the events starting with the Bonus Army wanting their rights and wages.    Someday the events of this week will play out in another book of this type.  Instead of reading of history I did not live I will instead be allowed to recall with delight the momentous week in which I was able to live and talk about it with others.
