Passing Along Special Thanks Tonight

September 10, 2015

I want to give a special thanks to a man who attended the musical event at Madison’s Central Park tonight.    He brought along three telescopes and had them set up in the back area.   He and his two sons allowed anyone wishing to have a glimpse up into space to have a really remarkable opportunity to see the rings of Saturn!!    The sight was most intense as one could see the rings separate from the planet.

I do not know this man’s name but wish in this way to call attention to his time and effort to set up his expensive telescopes and share this nighttime wonder with others.  I have seen other nighttime sights over the years this way but never before was able to see Saturn.  Just wow!

In addition one of his sons showcased a binary set of stars that rotate around each other and appear as one to the naked eye when we look at the Big Dipper.   Who knew?

I also add that next Friday (Sept 18th) on the rooftop of Monona Terrace some 30-40 large telescopes will be set up (weather permitting) to show off the awesome night sky and have it explained.  Plan to take your kids.   (It is also OK to be a big kid yourself.)

Thanks again to this man and his sons for making a really great evening even better.

Just one more reason why I love living on Madison’s isthmus and being able to walk to events of this type with James.

Wow! That must have been real cool. Would have loved to see it. You used to do more posts on space and science; I hope you get back to that, too. If its very big or very small, I dig it!
