Pope Francis Says Donald Trump “Is Not Christian”

February 18, 2016

Pope Francis said Thursday that Donald Trump is “not Christian” if he intends to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border. Trump immediately fired back, saying it is disgraceful for a religious leader to question a person’s faith.

Trump, a leading U.S. Republican presidential candidate, has promised to build a wall along the Mexican border from Texas to California and expel 11 million people who are in the country illegally if elected president. The Pope’s comments en route home from Mexico came hours after he prayed at the Mexico-U.S. border for people who died trying to reach the United States.

“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Francis said. “This is not in the Gospel.”

Not having heard Trump’s border plans independently, Francis said he’d “give him the benefit of the doubt.” But he added: “I’d just say that this man is not Christian if he said it this way.”

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, another Republican presidential contender, has also supported building

Pope Francis lives behind 40 ft walls at the Vatican, secured by Swiss guards. When he allows any and all unregistered immigrants to come into his City to live, with no controls…then he can give advice to the USA re: our safety from being invaded by ppl we know nothing about / who or whatever.

    Perfectly stated Badgerbabe,

I have no way to explain the evangelical support that Trump receives. He is constantly allowed to spout anything he wants without providing facts or specifics. The intensity from the media needs to increase about his background including mob ties that were made known by the NYT. I am aware that those who support Trump are unable to reason with facts but for the vast majority of this nation more info and pounding of Trump needs to take place.

For someone who touts how “wonderful” he is and what a “good” Christian he is, I wondered why Trump was confused when he went to non-denominational service in Council Bluffs IA and tried to put money onto a communion plate. I’m also not sure it’s particularly “Christian” to refer to politicians who happen to disagree with him as female genitalia. Perhaps he needs to spend more time actually going to a Presbyterian church (his alleged religion) and less time being critical of a Pope who actually practices what he preaches.
