President Bush (41) Makes For One Of Those Moments We All Can Applaud
There are fewer and fewer moments in our national political story where we all can find a reason to smile and applaud. One of those took place this evening when President Bush (41) and Barbara entered the hall for tonight’s Republican presidential debate.
There is no doubt much of his physical vim and vigor are behind him, but it is most clear that his political enthusiasm remains intact. (May it be that way for us all!)
On nights like this when American democracy plays out in yet another step towards a political party’s nomination it is heartening to see one of the major players from the last half of the 20th century still engaged and involved.
I would like to think there were no Republicans or Democrats across the nation when Bush made his entrance on television this evening. Instead just a bunch of Americans who know there was a time when rough and tumble politics was very much played in another presidential cycle, and yet a time when there were some rules of the road to be followed. It was also a time when gentlemen from both parties knew there was something more important than winning.
Seems like a long time ago. But are we not glad that there are ones like Bush 41 who can still remind us that we can be that way again?
