Tone Of Nation On Newspaper’s Front Pages

July 8, 2016

I think these three front pages of newspapers around the nation sum up where we are in this nation today.  A sad commentary.

Re: “headed back to the feel of 1968.” You are close to the mark Deke. Civil unrest, the Republican candidate with “secret plans” to solve our problems and get tough with “the trouble makers,” disgust in the Democratic Party with the undemocratic way the nominee is chosen, two terms of Democratic presidents and asking for a “third term,” [for HHH – Hubert Horatio Hillary] and, unstated, the status quo. I hope that Democrats don’t think the American people would never be so stupid as to choose Trump.

The Chicago Democratic Convention was on my birthday in 1968. We lived near Chicago at the time. I can still remember the chant of the marchers: “THE WHOLE WORLD’S WATCHING!” And here we go again. I’m almost sorry that my journalist dad is still alive to see this. What is wrong with this country? WHY are we so smitten with violence?

Headed back to the feel of 1968.

Here’s a simple question anyone running against the GOP needs to ask, in no uncertain terms: “YES OR NO. Are you saying that all Americans, man, woman, or child, need to be armed when they leave their house because you cannot assure that they will not be victims of gun violence otherwise?” This kind of idiocy is dragging us back to the frontier days. Actually, America is a more dangerous country NOW than it was then.
