The Cicada On Our Blue Adirondack Chair
By now I suspect my readers know that James and I spend part of each day that is sunny and warm in the blue Adirondack chairs on our front lawn. That is the place some of the best conversations of the day are held, and where neighbors and friends share coffee, wine, and dessert. Books are read there and even some great thoughts are pondered while gazing out at Lake Monona. It is my favorite place.
Tonight James noticed that on the third chair (two are for us and the third for the always invited passerby to sit in) there was a cicada that was metamorphosing into a fully winged insect. The brown casing of its form self had clung onto the arm rest and hung upside down. From it the larger green insect emerged. As we watched the green wings unfolded, dried and took shape.
Always excitement on our front lawn!
