Have You Heard The Latest About J.B. Van Hollen?
The process of government is one of those pesky issues I keep nagging about–and for good reason. If we not diligent and mindful of what is happening in government we are bound to slip backwards. Such as to the ways of cronyism and political patronage. (Recall what we allowed the Republicans to do this session that will only produce more of the same?)
Which brings up the question of have you heard the latest about J.B. Van Hollen?
Without regard to the ethics or the law then Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen without any apparent qualms asked the then state’s corrections secretary to give his wife a state job so his family could keep health benefits.
Stunning since Republicans like Van Hollen worked to limit the scope of the Affordable Health Care Act which was signed into law by President Obama.
In testimony this week former Corrections Secretary Ed Wall testified that he was asked “to find her a position there (at the Department of Corrections) as an attorney since he (Van Hollen) was not running again so they would have an income source and benefits.” In the end Lynne Van Hollen did get the job.
That is one way to land a comfy positon and retain health care benefits. This news came to light from testimony as part of an attempt by Wall to return to a job heading the Department of Justice’s investigative unit.
The total lack of concern about how this matter would look to the public or what the ethics of the situation demanded seems to have never entered the calculations of Van Hollen. The hypocrisy is super-rich when it comes to making sure that Van Hollen’s family will have health care but to hell with all those poor folks who need to have a federal health care plan so to also receive medical attention.
This is what the Republicans look like and how they act when they have unchallenged power in Wisconsin. With the power plays now enacted into law the level of cronyism and political patronage will only increase.
That is truly sad.
