Peg Lautenschlager Still On Learning Curve
I was really surprised that Peg Lautenschlager, the chairwoman of the state Ethics Commission,–a position that no one with such a partisan background should ever hold–posted a photo of her presidential election ballot online Friday.
That is simply illegal under state law.
What makes this story more odd is that Lautenschlager claims she did not know about the law in this matter. Being a former state attorney general one might have thought the ins and outs of state law might be something she would be most comfortable with. That and the fact banning photography has been against the law for decades in Wisconsin to prevent the practice of voters being paid to vote a certain way and then using a photograph of the ballot as evidence.
Lautenschlager claimed in her defense as to why she did it was due to seeing other people posting photos of their ballots on social media. We can only hope the former AG has not also seen photos online of cow tipping.
