John McCain (Finally) Withdraws Support For Donald Trump

October 8, 2016

Arizona Sen. John McCain withdrew his support for Donald Trump in the wake of sexually explicit comments by the GOP presidential nominee.  I strongly felt that McCain should never have demonstrated any support for the GOP nominee.  After the shameful remarks that Trump made about being a prisoner of war meant that McCain owed Trump nothing.

McCain made some political calculations for his primary and general election contest and came up short on the correct side of which he should be aligned.

McCain also cited Trump’s controversial remarks earlier this week about the “Central Park 5”  when Trump said he believed they were still guilty in a 1989 rape despite being exonerated years ago in making his decision.   But why McCain waited until now to make that comment also shows timidity that is unbecoming.

“Donald Trump’s behavior this week, concluding with the disclosure of his demeaning comments about women and his boasts about sexual assaults, make it impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy,” McCain said.
