When You Start A Campaign Rally Using Ben Roethlisberger As Your Talking Point…..
…means you know your political obituary has already been written.
That is what happened yesterday when Donald Trump took the stage in Pennsylvania–a must win state where Hillary Clinton leads all of the polls. That event took place after a ragged and tortured weekend for a national campaign that is tottering on life support following the first video showing Trump using trash talk in a sexually predatory way.
He took several minutes at Monday’s rally to talk about Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, and even called him “a friend.” Trump waged deep into the political minefield of ineptness when saddling himself closer and closer to the quarterback–even telling a rather odd tale about a golf outing between the two.
Why this was politically insane is due to the fact Roethlisberger has twice been involved in legal proceedings concerning rape accusations. Trump, of course, is mired neck-deep in his own scandal after lewd comments he made in 2005 recently came to light, leading some to accuse him of having committed sexual assaults.
In 2010, Roethlisberger was suspended six games by the NFL following a case in which a 20-year-old college student accused him of forcing her to have sex with him in a Georgia nightclub. In 2012, Roethlisberger settled a case out of court involving another woman’s 2008 allegation that he raped her at a Lake Tahoe hotel.
This was not the first time Trump has played up to sexual predators or those who protect them.
Trump raised eyebrows in April when saying “How’s Joe Paterno? We’re gonna bring that back? Right? How about that whole deal?”
There is nothing but shame to show for Trump’s efforts this year. His children must be so proud.
