Yeah… you know when the Chairman sings “Regrets, I’ve had a few…”? Well, there’s mine. Hope you’re enjoying the view from Heaven, Major Glenn. You sure earned it.
I almost got to meet him once. My then-employer didn’t want to foot the bill for flying me to Columbus to do the interview. A big regret… should’ve footed the damned bill myself and gotten to meet one of the greatest living Americans.
You and me, both! I always wanted to meet Glenn, and just knew he would have been like you and me–your average guy and would have talked and laughed and told stories. Can you image the stories he could tell?! When I was a boy he was one of those guys who made me sure I too could be an astronaut. When he was allowed a place on the shuttle I was elated as he was older and still able to fly. What a life!
A great American. I loved this guy. Wish he could come back and lead this country now.
