Oddest Sentence In Today’s Newspaper Written By Matthew DeFour Mentions Timbuk3

January 2, 2017

In the midst of a story in the Wisconsin State Journal about Governor Scott Walker and the political landscape of his future comes the following sentence.

President-elect Donald Trump won 545 of the 809 Wisconsin cities, villages and towns President Barack Obama won in 2012 on his way to becoming the first Republican to win Wisconsin since before Timbuk3 had a hit record.

What?

If it is true that many young people do not read newspapers and if it is also true that most older readers of papers are not post-punk music fans (and, yes, I had to look up what Timbuk3 referenced) than how did that group make it into the article?

It caught my attention but….

It goes without saying, however, that I have the greatest respect for Matthew DeFour who has really become a solid reporter in this city.

The song that our Governor quoted from in his speech, as referenced in the opening paragraph of the article, is from Timbuk3.

But yeah…that is an obscure reference, both by Walker and DeFour, for anyone ‘cept a GenXer.
