Will House Health Bill Be Pulled Or Go Down In Flames?
UPDATE: House Republican leaders abruptly pulled a Republican rewrite of the nation’s health-care system from consideration, a dramatic acknowledgment that they are so far unable to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Here is where we are now, dear readers.
The House DOES NOT have the votes to pass the Republican health-care replacement bill at this point. That’s why Speaker Paul Ryan went to the White House. What we are witnessing is not only the end of this version of the GOP effort to repeal and replace the ACA, but also the blame game exerting itself. Recall that people attacked John Boehner for being weak, but the same problems that plagued the Ohio Republicans are plaguing Donald Trump and Ryan. Though I am delighted to see this bill spiral to hell I am not pleased with how the process in the House allows for a small band of conservatives who only wish to burn government to the ground be allowed to prevail.
I am of the mind to hope, for the sanity of the process, that the speaker would pull this bill. Trump has other hopes, and they run counter to the best interests of Ryan and congressional Republicans. It the bill is allowed to head to the floor this measure is going to fail. And if it goes down it could fail by a ton. Get ready for the pile on. Yes votes can easily turn to no if the bill is going down in flames.
The carnage after such a needless blunder will be higher than one can image as the political knives come out.
