Applauding J.P. Morgan Chase About Public Air Waves

June 13, 2017

There are times when using the power of money is simply to be applauded.  Such is the case concerning NBC anchor Megyn Kelly’s plan to air an interview with a right-wing provocateur named Alex Jones.  One advertiser to the show, J.P. Morgan Chase, has asked for its local TV ads and digital ads to be removed from Kelly’s show and from all NBC news programming until after the show airs.

I strong approve of this move by J.P. Morgan Chase.  The reason I do so is that Kelly is normalizing the far-right radio talk show host Jones, who has pushed conspiracy theories about 9/11 and the Sandy Hook massacre.  He claims the slaughter of the small children was a hoax and that no one died..

I am one of those old-fashioned guys who still knows that the air waves are owned by the public.  I also know there is a responsibility for broadcasters to act with the utmost responsibility when it comes to content carried on those air waves.  As a former radio broadcaster and a long time lover of the ‘magic’ of the air waves I very much applaud and sincerely thank J.P. Morgan Chase for their action.
