Always Take A Book To A Doctor’s Visit

June 18, 2017

There is never a time–be it a hair cut, oil change, or dental visit that James and I do not take a book along in the car.  One never knows how much lag time it will be before such visits are concluded.  And who wants to be stranded without a book?

So when we visited Rolf last night at UW Hospital–yes we were at two separate hospitals last night as we also spent some time with our friend Rick–something struck me at once.  Rolf had only the menu and a carbohydrate counter at his bedside and I knew at once that someone had not heeded that cardinal rule of visiting a doctor’s office.

On Friday when Rolf paid a visit to his doctor for what was hoped to be only a fast in-and-out the matter in question was far more severe and demanded hospitalization for the weekend.   Had I known of his fate–not having anything to read–I could have aided him.  But all I could do was marvel at how few carbs there were in a single potato.

The good news is that Rolf is expected to be out the hospital today.  Not only will be know how to combat the reasons he needed to stay this weekend but equally important know now the one thing that is always required when visiting a doctor!

Definitely understand a book when something is planned, but for unexpected stops, I keep several magazines in the back seat. Always an article or two I have not read yet.
