Donald Trump Trusting Putin Over Election Hacking

Everybody knows that Russia was meddling in the United States’ election.   That has been dissected and determined by 17 intelligence agencies in the United States.  President Putin is making sure Russia is doing this across multiple continents, and they’re doing this in a fashion to cause chaos within the countries they select.

While Trump was not aware there were 17 intelligence agencies, as he stated before a camera, the fact is there are 17.  Some of these are large, independent agencies, like the FBI, CIA and NSA. Others are smaller offices within agencies whose main focus is not intelligence, but the Director of National Intelligence, which is an umbrella agency, oversees all 17 organizations.    It should concern serious people that the president is not aware of such things.

All 17 intelligence organizations agree with the January assessment of Russian meddling in our election in 2016.  So it was jarring to see Trump tweet this morning that “Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded..”

Which then leads me to ask if the president did not believe Putin’s denial of meddling — which would mean Trump believes Russia did interfere in the election — why is he starting a cyber-security initiative with him?

Senator Rubio said of the idea, “Partnering with Putin on a ‘Cyber Security Unit’ is akin to partnering with Assad on a ‘Chemical Weapons Unit’.

Meanwhile Senator Graham said ‘It’s not the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard, but it’s pretty close.’
