Donald Trump Throws Attorney General Sessions Under The Bus Without White House Backtracking

July 20, 2017

By now everyone has heard the unglued interview of Donald Trump to The New York Times in the Oval Office.  It was there he told reporters that he regretted hiring Jeff Sessions as his attorney general and discussed a sensitive investigation his lawyers have told him to keep quiet about.  To say this has jarred the political world is an understatement.  One can only image how this insanity has once again left his most senior aides startled and scrambling to respond.

Trump’s comments about Session is causing deep distress and alarm at the White House.  In a nutshell these comments are leading some to worry that their loyalty to Trump might not be reciprocated from the man in the Oval Office.  What I find more shocking is that this sense of alarm and concern is now just starting to be felt.  Trump has always had one interest–not the nation or citizenry and clearly not his staff.   Trump’s one concern has been himself and his money making endeavors.

Today Session stated he plans to continue in his job despite Trump saying that he would have picked someone else had he known Sessions would recuse himself from the department’s Russia investigation.

What I find of great interest as a politico is that the White House has made no effort to walk back Trump’s comments or display confidence in the attorney general. Instead, it is reported that top Trump advisers acknowledge that the president’s public comments largely reflected what they have heard him say about Sessions privately.

Update…It was not until late this afternoon that Trump’s White House spokesperson (who is the most dreadful at her job) stated Trump had faith in his AG.  Yeah, that sounds genuine.

And so it goes.

Cheeto-in-Chief is also not happy with his “deputy A.G.” being in charge of the Russian probe either. You can just imagine the spittle as he said that. If he wants to fire Mueller, he may have to go down to the guy who fills the sandwich machine at D.O.J. to find his Robert Bork to wield the ax. For all the talk about Trump’s business experience, you can tell that he made his way through the merit system of million dollar loans from daddy, fraud, bankruptcy, threats and bullying in a family business. Can you imagine a CEO of a major corporation not understanding the need to recuse yourself when connected to an investigation? The Board would have their head and they’d be indicted. But “Mr. I’m the Boss, You’re fired” can’t conceive of the concept. At least J. Beauregard went to law class the day they covered that.
