Only A Political Neophyte Would Rant On Mitch McConnell

August 9, 2017

But that is exactly what President Trump and his White House are now doing.   Dan Scavino, senior aide to Trump sent via Twitter. “More excuses. @SenateMajLdr must have needed another 4 years – in addition to the 7 years — to repeal and replace Obamacare…..”

I am not sure how much the Trump White knows, but it is clear there is a tremendous they do not know.  It is simply stunning that they are not aware Mitch McConnell is the lynchpin to whatever this White House wants to get done on Capitol Hill.

It is clear from the way Trump talks and acts that he is not a reader or follower of politics over the years.  But McConnell has been a central player in the Senate and is not going anywhere for a very long time.  Like him or not the man commands respect from all Republican senators and controls the Senate floor. The President needs to act in the same fashion.

The role of those in the Republican Party are not to kiss Trump’s backside or flatter him endlessly.  McConnell simply stated his views about Trump that were not terribly controversial, and there are many other Republicans around Trump who admit he has too rosy a view of how the political process works.

Recall that Trump said during the campaign health care would be easy, and the law could be repealed immediately. McConnell never said that, and no one grounded in politics or just common sense would have uttered such a thing.

So dumping on McConnell is just plain stupid–even for this president and White House.
