Equality In Scouting

At last–and with hearty applause from the desk of Caffeinated Politics.

The Boy Scouts of America’s board of directors has unanimously agreed to let girls into the Cub Scout program and to give a path for older girls to pursue and earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout.

“The historic decision comes after years of receiving requests from families and girls,” Boy Scouts of America said in a statement.

It is about time!

Wall Street Reporter Threatened For Doing Her Job

Just another example of the way dictatorial type nations treat journalists.  This is similar to the antics President Trump attempted today regarding NBC News.  The freedom of the press will always win–as it must.

“A Turkish court sentenced Wall Street Journal reporter Ayla Albayrak to two years and one month in prison Tuesday, declaring her guilty of engaging in terrorist propaganda in support of a banned Kurdish separatist organization through one of her Journal articles. … Ms. Albayrak … is currently in New York … ‘This was an unfounded criminal charge and wildly inappropriate conviction that wrongly singled out a balanced Wall Street Journal report,’ said Wall Street Journal Editor in Chief Gerard Baker. ‘The sole purpose of the article was to provide objective and independent reporting on events in Turkey, and it succeeded.'”

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said it condemned the Turkish court decision.

“The conviction of Ayla in Turkey is a very worrying sign and an escalation of the crackdown on the press,” said Nina Ognianova, the CPJ’s Europe and Central Asia program coordinator, calling Turkey the world’s top jailer of journalists. “We call on the Turkish authorities to overturn this decision immediately,” she said.

Harvey Weinstein Deserves Criminal Charges

There is no amount of adjectives to describe the sexual harassment stories which features the lurid and totally inexcusable actions of Harvey Weinstein.  His behavior stretched back decades, and while many knew his sexual crimes were taking place too many remained silent.  But now legal actions are sure to follow as even Disney, which owned his Miramax studio when some of the harassment was alleged to have taken place, is being called to account for what they knew.

In a statement, the Walt Disney Company said it was “unaware of any complaints, lawsuits or settlements” regarding the sexual behavior of Weinstein, who left Disney in 2005 to found the Weinstein Company, another film and television studio.

Former presidential candidate and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton broke her silence and released a statement about Weinstein, who donated generously to her campaigns. “I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein,” Clinton said in the statement. “The behavior described by the women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior.”

Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, also released a statement.  “Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports about Harvey Weinstein. Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status,” the statement reads.  Malia Obama, the president’s eldest daughter, was an intern at The Weinstein Co. earlier this year before starting at Harvard University this fall.

Trump Seeking To Close Major News Operation

Stalin and Hitler and now Donald Trump.  When a dictator does not like reporters informing the citizenry about the workings of government the first reaction is to close down the newspapers, or broadcast centers, or news operations.

President Trump suggested that NBC’s broadcast license should be pulled as punishment after NBC News published a report stating that the president sought a dramatic increase in the nation’s nuclear arsenal, Politico reports.

“It is the second time in as many weeks that Trump has felt compelled to attack NBC News, which reported last week that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson came close to resigning last summer and called the president a ‘moron’ following a meeting with members of the national security team and members of the cabinet.”

John Kelly will have to leave this White House to save whatever shred of dignity he has left.

What left Orange Mussolini upset was that it was reported he told military leaders in a summer meeting that he wanted a nearly tenfold increase in the U.S. nuclear arsenal, according to three officials. His comments rattled the gathered national security experts and it was soon after the meeting broke up that officials heard Secretary of State Rex Tillerson call the president a “******* moron.”

Roy Moore Not So Christian After All, Just Another Money-Grabbing Charlatan

Roy Moore, the Alabama Republican U.S. Senate candidate once said publicly that he did not take a “regular salary” from the small charity he founded to promote Christian values because he did not want to be a financial burden.

But privately, Moore had arranged to receive a salary of $180,000 a year for part-time work at the Foundation for Moral Law.  Internal charity documents show that to be a fact.  Moore collected more than $1 million as president from 2007 to 2012, compensation that far surpassed what the group disclosed in its public tax filings most of those years.  How interesting!  The IRS does enjoy these types of stories.

When the charity couldn’t afford the full amount, Moore was given a promissory note for back pay eventually worth $540,000 or an equal stake of the charity’s most valuable asset, a historic building in Montgomery, mortgage records show.

A Washington Post review of public and internal charity documents found that errors and gaps in the group’s federal tax filings obscured until now the compensation paid to Moore.

How Soon Before Chief-Of-Staff John Kelly Departs White House?

Unlike Donald Trump many of the men and women who came to work for this White House are serious-minded people with credibility and deserved respect.    They are not desiring that their resumes be tarred and smeared with what Trump is doing while in the Oval Office.  One of those who will not want to be defined in his final career chapter with the awful after-taste of Trump is White House Chief-of-Staff John Kelly.

A person close to the White House has told the Los Angeles Times that Trump and Kelly had engaged in “shouting matches” in recent days.

“Kelly has sought to limit Trump’s free time and to prevent outsiders from bringing him unfiltered and sometimes inaccurate information that can rile him up… More often, though, Kelly and others on his side are frustrated.”

“The president, meanwhile, is said to be discomfited not only by the attempts to control him, but by the recent departure of his longtime lieutenant, Keith Schiller, who had been White House director of operations and, perhaps most important, a key interpreter and soother of Trump’s feelings.”

This is the most dysfunctional and bizarre President this nation has ever had, and the White House staff are reduced to everything other than being wet nurses–and given the perversion Trump demonstrated with Russian prostitutes one has to wonder about that too.

Kelly will be out of the White House by the second week of January.  He has no reason to stay in such a humiliating and trying situation.
