This blog is four-square with the Madison Police Department and Chief Mike Koval. So I am very pleased with last night’s work by the mature members of the Madison City Council who beat back a cop-bashing attempt by the likes of Alderwoman Marsha Rummel and her usual crowd. Rummel had wished to zero out any money for more police. That crap did not fly.
Rummel and her cop-hating allies lost last night at the budget meeting when the council voted 14-6 in favor of adding $400,000 to the $350,000 allocated in the mayor’s proposed budget in order to fund, at the very least, seven additional police officers and two squad cars even if the city is not awarded a federal grant. David Blaska has a first-rate write-up that correctly hits the nail from every direction.
I want to thank Alders Eskrich, Harrington, King, Martin, Palm, Phair, Skidmore, Verveer, Wood, Zellers, Ahrens, Bidar-Sielaff, Cheeks, Clear for their votes and leadership. Madison proved who the mature members of the council are, and what spine is all about.
Job well done!
