Stricter Gun Laws In New Jersey Shows Sanity Can Win

June 13, 2018

A package of gun laws that would tighten New Jersey’s already strict regulations has been approved by the legislature and is now heading to Governor Phil Murphy, who appears likely to sign them.  I strongly applaud the reasonable laws, and the spine that these elected officials have demonstrated.

The state Senate on Thursday approved six new gun measures that would reduce the permitted magazine size, tighten rules for concealed carry permits, ban armor-piercing bullets, expand background checks and make it easier for authorities to seize guns by people considered a threat, according to NJ.com.

—Background checks for private gun sales

—Lower magazine capacity to 10

—Residents must show “justifiable need” to get a carry permit

—No body-armor-penetrating ammunition

New Jersey should be the model for the nation.
