Political Tea Leaves Making Republicans Want Stronger Drink

Politico ratings this morning show deep concerns for the GOP as mid-terms near.

The Republican House majority continues to show signs of collapsing, with Democrats steadily gaining ground toward erasing their 23-seat deficit and ending eight years of GOP control.

A total of 68 seats currently held by Republicans are firmly in play — rated as ‘Lean Republican’ or worse for the GOP — presenting a stark contrast to the Democratic side, where only a half-dozen Democratic seats are in similar jeopardy.”

There are now 209 seats either firmly or leaning in the Democratic column — only nine shy of the 218 needed to win control. The GOP still has a path to keep the House, but it would require either a near-sweep of the toss-up races or a significant change in the political environment in the final four weeks of the campaign.

The GOP does look better at keeping the senate.  But all Democrats need to slow down the crazy from the Trump Administration is to win the House.  With the investigative power that is so needed at this time of unprecedented slime and greed from Trump, his family, and cabinet there is no way forward for the nation other than to place the House in the hands of Democrats.

For my Virginia readers there is some good polling news to report about a must win congressional seat.

A new Washington Post-Schar School Poll finds President Trump’s unpopularity fuels a clear lead for  Democratic candidate Jennifer Wexton over Republican incumbent Congresswoman Barbara Comstock 55% to 43%, “putting a prized northern Virginia district within reach for Democrats for the first time in almost four decades.”

Key finding: “The survey finds voters say the president is the most important factor influencing likely voters’ choice for Congress, more so even than the strong economy which would boost the party in power in a typical election year.”

And to show how competitive the landscape is this cycle consider the following.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is dropping $250,000 on a new TV ad in Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District, a deep red, (R+7) seat anchored in Little Rock that is represented by Republican Congressman French Hill.  A quarter-million bucks buys two weeks of broadcast.  The ad shows Hill in a duck-hunting outfit slowly transforming into a suit-wearing politician outside the Capitol.  The mood in even dark red Arkansas might be changing.

Now about the “swamp”…..
