Today the Madison Police Department made the following information available. While I do not laugh at the victims of crime there are those instances when there is no way to really feel sorry.
The MPD is investigating an armed robbery that took place outside of East Towne Mall this afternoon.
In the run-up to the crime, the victim – a Madison man – said he was contacted in the 600 block of E. Washington Ave. by people who were inside a dark colored van with Illinois plates. He was told that if he went to the mall with them, and purchased two phones for the occupants – with the victim’s credit – the people in the van would give him some cash.
The man agreed to the deal, but instead of giving him money, one of the robbers produced a knife and took the phones.
