Crushing Blow To British Prime Minister Theresa May And Proud Nation

January 15, 2019

“So you voted to hit the iceberg. Do we hit it hard or soft?”

This is a tragic outcome resulting from a tragic mess that never needed to happen.  What happened today is another reminder that nationalism un-tethered from reality and data is a disaster.  Blowing up institutions and systems that have proven to work is not the path forward.   The British voters were terribly flawed in their hubris to vote against the European Union.

With that as a starting point the news from across the pond is most dreadful.

Theresa May’s Brexit deal has been crushed by a record margin as British lawmakers rejected it by 432 votes to 202.

After eight days of parliamentary debate and 200 speeches, members of the House of Commons ignored the Prime Minister’s final pleas and delivered a humiliating verdict on her plan to take Britain out of the European Union.

The result is the worst parliamentary defeat for a British government in the modern era.  Think about that!

Prime Minister May now faces a deep political crisis, with no clear path for her political survival.

The nation, however, does have a route to the safe shores of reality.  Have a new referendum.  Base a vote on something other than superficial populism and nationalist fears.  There is almost no chance they vote to leave again now that they see and feel the repercussions.
