Yet Another Mass Shooting

Last evening on the news there was a story about a baseball hit by a player which slammed into the bleachers and hit a child.  James turned to me and said there will be laws put in place soon to remedy such baseball injuries.  But when it comes to guns and the violence they cause—GOSH—nothing can be done.

And then the next mass shooting happened today.

In June 2016 I spoke at the rally on the steps of the Wisconsin Statehouse held to deal with the mass slaughter in Orlando that same day.. I spoke from the heart about the loss of life that forced our nation to lower flags half-mast and how the NRA needs to be curtailed. I stressed that our sense of loss, anger, and fear as a nation and, as gay Americans based on the shooting massacre that day, needs to be translated into passion for urging congress to write and pass meaningful gun control measures. I also urged people to have conversations not just with folks we agree with but everyone as we must vote in numbers that matter and send a message all can understand. This gun violence must end. It starts with you and me. When I concluded there was strong applause.
Today eleven people were killed in a shooting in Virginia Beach. The suspect is also deceased. Shots were fired in the Virginia Beach municipal complex.

Dow Jones To Feel Red Following (Another) Trump Insanity

For those who care about the stock market–and that should be everyone–look out for Friday.

Trump said Thursday that he would impose a 5 percent tariff on all imported goods from Mexico beginning June 10, a tax that would “gradually increase” until the flow of undocumented immigrants across the border stopped.

As of this posting Asian markets, which are now trading, are dropping and drawing much concern for Bloomberg News.

Trump is such a rube he thinks Americans paying a series of increasing taxes for Mexican goods and services is going to solve a refugee crisis originating in Central America.

Since our ‘stable genius’ thinks China is paying the tariffs imposed on that country, one has to wonder if Mexico will now be paying these new tariffs?  Only this idiot thinks placing additional taxes on Americans is the key to immigration reform!

And Trump supporters are so stupid they agree with him!  But why not–they are as under-educated as Trump proves to be each day.

Love Between Trump And North Korean Kim Even More Sickening

The news today underscores why the ‘love letters’ between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and  Donald Trump make me ill.

Trump said in 2018,  “I was really being tough and so was he. And we would go back and forth. And then we fell in love. No really. He wrote me beautiful letters. They were great letters. And then we fell in love.”

Cue the barfing.

Today we learned that North Korea executed five officials for their part in the failed second summit between Trump and Kim Jong Un.    Tonight Bloomberg News reported that Kim Hyok Chol, North Korea’s special envoy to the U.S., and four other North Korean Foreign Ministry officials were executed in March because of the breakdown of the February summit in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Blood runs cold hearing of this barbaric behavior.

Pictured is Kim Hyok-chol, left, the special envoy to the United States, during summit preparations in Hanoi, Vietnam, in February.

This Has To Be The Picture Of The Week

Am Elated–Netanyahu Fails to Form Coalition

This is precisely what I hoped would happen.

Anything to stop or hinder Benjamin Netanyahu, with his plans to make the Middle East less democratic and safe for all, is a good thing.

The Knesset voted Wednesday night to dissolve itself after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a governing coalition, sending Israel to a new election mere seven weeks after the last one.”

“At the heart of the impasse was the issue of drafting ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students: Yisrael Beiteinu’s Avigdor Lieberman, without whom Netanyahu can’t form a coalition, refused to back down on the bill’s terms, while ultra-Orthodox parties claimed they have already yielded enough ground.

Trump Supporters Paid Taxes For This Work To Be Done

What happens when a bone spur president gets miffed with a national American war hero?
The White House wanted the U.S. Navy to move “out of sight” a warship named for the late Sen. John McCain, a war hero who became a frequent target of Trump’s ire, ahead of the Trump’s visit to Japan last week, according to an email reviewed by the Wall Street Journal.
“A tarp was hung over the ship’s name ahead of Trump’s trip… and sailors were directed to remove any coverings from the ship that bore its name. After the tarp was taken down, a barge was moved closer to the ship, obscuring its name. Sailors on the ship, who typically wear caps bearing its name, were given the day off during Mr. Trump’s visit.”
And Trump supporters, with their tax dollars, paid to have this done.

“Molecules Of U.S. Freedom”

Why do we laugh at the Trump Administration?   Why do we snicker over Trump supporters?

It is late on Wednesday night so one might ask is it too late to post something absurd? Well…...this is the Trump government at work.

Who got a paycheck for terming “molecules of U.S. freedom”?  But first we should clarify what are these molecules?

The technical answer is liquefied natural gas.  Or, if you are in charge of energy policy for the Trump administration, “freedom gas.”

This is why we call the whole lot of them–from the supporters under the rocks across the land, to the cabinet members of this administration–the only word that fits.

Stinging Words From Robert Mueller–A Man Of Honor

This morning must have been a rough one for workers and staff in the White House.  Robert Mueller delivered words to the nation that Donald Trump must have fumed over as he stomped about with his usual bombast.  Insiders of the Trump Administration have repeatedly offered insights into his behavior when he is confronted with reality.

Mueller declined to clear Trump of obstruction of justice in his first public characterization of his two-year-long investigation of Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.  That was a cannon shot over the nation–and a clear sign to congress to not neglect the business of oversight into this president.

“If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.  We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime.”

Those words have reverberated around the nation.  He also said that while Justice Department policy prohibits charging a sitting president with a crime, the Constitution provides for another process to formally accuse a sitting president of wrongdoing.  No one missed the message with that line.  Congress needs to to begin impeachment proceedings.

I fully understand why some people favor impeachment. as I do, and others can firmly argue the political danger of playing that card.  I think history calls us to act when law and order is undermined by the highest office in the land.  I strongly hold to the Constitution calling for the legislative branch to keep the executive in check.  Others can point out the need to remove an under-handed leader through the ballot box as being a better way to show national disgust.

What we all can agree on is that the Republican Party continues to put partisan politics above love of country and support to our national institutions.    That is a shame which historians will long note.

There is an upside to the major story of the day.  Mueller demonstrated that he is a man of impeccable integrity and honor.   How many times can we say that about a national news-maker in the recent past?  We can take great comfort that he left private law practice so to serve our country in this investigation.  He is someone parents around the nation can look to as a role model for their children.
