Where Is Famed Republican Gavel?

February 22, 2020

While waiting for the outcome from today’s Nevada Democratic caucuses another unknown comes to mind, thanks to reading about James Garfield.

In 1880 at the Republican national convention in Chicago, the gavel that was used for the proceedings was made from historic wood and plantings.

The handle of the gavel was made from cane produced at Mount Vernon, President George Washington’s home and the gavel was made from the door sill of Abraham Lincoln’s Illinois home.

Where that gavel is today remains a mystery.  Google has not allowed me an ending to my post.  And the results from out West are still not known.  What to do?

Back to reading.
