Lake Monona Ice Melt Makes For Grand Sights, Sounds

March 21, 2021

If you lived on the Madison isthmus and were inside watching basketball on television Sunday afternoon you were missing the main show. It was not the NCAA that was producing the drama, but rather Mother Nature who was putting on a performance that was not only one to see, but also hear.

The ice mounds took only a few hours to create with the clinking, grinding and tectonic-type up-and-over action incrementally taking place as one watched. This is one of the annual events that draws my attention and enthusiasm.

From my first spring season living here in 2008 comes this fond memory.
