Elvis Presley And Donald Trump Should Not Be Used In Same Sentence–Generosity Of Spirit As To Why

Let me start by stating my headline is not a sentence.  And now onward.

This morning, as each weekday, I eat breakfast while watching Morning Joe.  I continually find the show insightful, filled with good vocabulary,  spots of humor, while the meat of news stories are examined.  I always walk away feeling either a bit more educated or heartened that a conviction of mine has been confirmed by someone I respect.  Additionally, I very much admire the hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.  (I was a fan of Zbigniew Brzezinski going back to the presidency of Jimmy Carter.)

Long-time readers to this blog know I am honest in how I write, and never mince words about the views being shared.  So it does not please me now to need to take Scarborough to task  about his views of Donald Trump’s campaign rally last night.  He compared the rally to the final concerts of Elvis Presley.

The morning host spoke about what Trump did on stage with his old rhetoric from the 2016 campaign, the same use of stagecraft, along with the fervent applause for the familiar.  Then Scarborough linked it to the final months of concerts by the King of Rock and Roll.

Scarborough said that Trump’s “greatest hits” reminded him of the the half-hearted manner in which the singer, in late-career, overweight and the drug-addled played to his crowds.  I was not amused.

It’s Elvis in ‘77 sweating, trying to sing the old hits but his heart is just not in it. They know what he’s going to sing before he sings it. They know all the words and the guy who was once so exciting is now just dull.

Elvis, the gentlemen and consummate Southerner, being compared to a grifter was truly hard to stomach in the morning.  More so, because Scarborough thought it ‘cute enough’ to use in more than one throw-away line.  He really felt he had an analogy which worked.  It truly did not.

The main reason I differ with Scarborough is that Elvis was told to slow down on the hectic touring schedule but said there were so many parts to his musical entourage counting on him for a paycheck he felt a need to continue.  Elvis loved being Elvis, but he also knew how much others counted on him to perform.

Contrast that with Trump who showcases himself on a daily basis as only looking out for himself, at the exclusion to everyone and everything else.

We can also contrast the two regarding how they treated people they encountered.  Elvis was known to go car shopping and buy autos for strangers and have keys handed to them.  In July of 1975, two years before his death, Elvis was shopping for friends and family at Memphis’ Madison Cadillac, his preferred dealer. A bank teller, Mennie L. Person, was admiring Elvis’ limo, parked outside, when the man himself wandered over. He took her into the showroom, said “pick one out”.

Manners is another way that Elvis outclassed the one who held a rally last night.  With the values of ‘Yes ma’am’ and ‘No sir’ Elvis was always a product of his roots and solid upbringing.  Elvis was born in a shotgun shack but knew what style and decency meant when dealing with people who were not rich.  When we think of the word character and Elvis we have a list of words which come to mind.

When we think of word character and Trump we also have a list of words which come to mind.

The two lists are vastly different.

Finally  it would not be in the style of this blogger to not make my case with Elvis himself.  In the final weeks of his life came this performance below. This underscores why Joe Scarborough is most definitely wrong when he chose to use Elvis this morning in his analogy.  This was, at the time, a newly recorded song on Moody Blue–an album printed in see-through blue vinyl which I own–and proves the incredible vocal range and performing prowess of Elvis.  Today Elton John and Paul McCartney sing the oldies in concert , and Elvis did the same for his adoring crowds.  But he also was always venturing forward as this video clearly demonstrates.

I trust Scarborough will allow his audience an apology Thursday morning for his rudeness today.

Elvis Presley showed, time and again, what generosity of spirit looks like.  And he wore it with a smile and humble heart.

Joe Scarborough is wrong.  Period.

Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough Married In Speculator Location!

I love these two and wish them the very best.

At 5:40 p.m. on Saturday evening, Mika Brzezinski hurried out of a black S.U.V. a few dozen yards from the back entrance of the National Archives. An umbrella was popped open for her, and she walked into the historic library in order to get married to her longtime Morning Joe colleague and partner, Joe Scarborough, in front of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights.

Part of the popularity of the Scarzinski relationship derives from the fact that, despite their prominent roles as hosts of perhaps the most influential news program in American politics, their romance has been handled with militant discretion. The couple, who got engaged last spring at the Hotel Du Cap in Antibes, France, never talk about their relationship on air, are seldom photographed together at social events, or spotted at restaurants, on vacation, at parties. This discipline has lent the duo an unexpected celebrity air, rendering them a sort of Branjelina of the political-media in-crowd—a credential more or less certified when Donald Trump offered to have them married at the White House during a visit in 2017. They declined the offer.

Brzezinski wore a stark-white, tea-length Milly dress, with delicate, polka-dotted lace sleeves that swept into a sweetheart neckline, created by her friend, designer Michelle Smith. Her shoes were custom-made by designer Layla-Joy Williams, who flew to her factory in Brazil with fabric from the dress to make sure the pointy-toed stilettos were just right. Scarborough, for his part, wore a black Zegna suit from his on-air rotation, what he called a Robert Mueller-approved white shirt, and a traditional black wedding tie. He affixed a boutonniere with a white orchid and green sprigs to his lapel.

Funniest Line Today About Donald Trump

It was Mika Brzezinski who made the remark during a long segment on Morning Joe about trade tariffs.  The line was perfectly delivered in an understated fashion.  A line, though subtle, which was perfectly aimed at the under-educated rube in the White House.  A line, so short, and yet so like a precision missile aimed for the larger truth.

“You think he (Trump) is thinking about Milton Friedman?”

Mika Brzezinski Correctly Questions If ‘All Women Need To Be Believed?’

This morning’s Morning Joe was time well spent.  And spot on.  From a woman.  From a liberal Democrat.  Thank you, Mika.

Seriously Chilling Words From Morning Joe About President Trump’s Dictatorial Aims

What President Trump has proven in his months in the White House is his disdain for the Constitution, his desire to undermine our political institutions, and his continued assault on the free press.  His contempt for our democratic institutions can not be questioned.

Now with military confrontation against North Korea becoming ever more certain there is a beleif being raised which once was only voiced in homes and small dinner parties but now is being stated openly and plainly by the most important morning news show in the nation.

This morning Joe Scarborough stated it at the end of the first segment.  He was speaking about the war on the Korean peninsula and then continued with this comment.

“…be on guard after that since he is contemptuous of the Constitution that if a war does begin we have to be very careful about what steps he takes at home domestically if he does start that war.”

Mika Brezezinski then stated what millions feel by saying “Well, we agree with that.”

It is a chilling and awful time in this nation with President Trump sitting in the Oval Office and too many of his voters are not capable of understanding why that is so.

POLL: 65% Think Trump Went Over Line When Attacking Mika Brzezinski And Joe Scarborough

President Trump’s mentally unstable behavior frowned on by the American public

“President Donald Trump acted unacceptably when he insulted MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski on Twitter last week, nearly two-thirds of voters say in a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll. Sixty-five percent of voters say Trump’s tweets were unacceptable, the poll shows, while just 16 percent say they are acceptable.

“The poll was conducted June 29-30, beginning just hours after Trump called Brzezinski ‘low I.Q. Crazy Mika’ last Thursday and wrote that she was ‘bleeding badly from a facelift’ when visiting his Palm Beach, Florida, club over the New Year’s holiday. The poll was already in the field when Trump, the next morning, tweeted that Brzezinski’s program, ‘Morning Joe’ was ‘FAKE NEWS’ and suggested that Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, the former Florida congressman, asked Trump to stop the National Enquirer from reporting a romantic relationship between the two co-hosts.

“The poll concluded before Trump turned his ire on another media outlet, CNN, tweeting a wrestling video doctored to make it appear that Trump was body-slamming and assaulting the network.”

Still More Proof Donald Trump Has Serious Mental Condition

This is just not normal or healthy behavior.  Donald Trump shows symptoms almost daily of a very troubled man in need of a good mental health counselor.

Trump was on a tweetstorm this morning from his summer home in Bedminster, New Jersey. It started out rational.  There was even a nice and pleasant wish to Canada for a happy 150th anniversary.

But the bat-crap crazy switch was soon turned on as he sat on his toilet.  The tweets turned sharp, mean, and as is the case with the under-educated, lacking facts.

This all can only be summed up as sad insight into the unhealthy mind of the president.   This is what the leader of the free world does on a Saturday morning during a holiday weekend.   I guess he had nothing to grab this morning!

@realDonaldTrump at 8:44 a.m.: “Happy Canada Day to all of the great people of Canada and to your Prime Minister and my new found friend @JustinTrudeau. #Canada150”

@realDonaldTrump at 8:59 a.m.: “Word is that @Greta Van Susteren was let go by her out of control bosses at @NBC & @Comcast because she refused to go along w/ ‘Trump hate!’”

Recognize that this is the president of the United States weighing in on the dismissal of a host of a television program.  A program that truly did not have ratings to sustain it.

At 9:07 a.m.: “Numerous states are refusing to give information to the very distinguished VOTER FRAUD PANEL. What are they trying to hide?”

Since facts matter to many of us it needs to be stated many of the states that have refused say it is against their state laws to turn over personal information.   If the president liked to read–which he has stated he does not–and if he wanted to be informed–which he clearly does not–he could read The Washington Post and The New York Times for information about the more than two dozen states which has basically told the unhealthy president to eat dust over this matter.

The crazy did not end there.

At 9:12 a.m.: “I am extremely pleased to see that @CNN has finally been exposed as #FakeNews and garbage journalism. It’s about time!”

CNN is not fake news and that is the fact he does not like.  They like other news organisations are ferreting out the truth–which is their job.

But wait–it still is not over.

At 9:20 a.m.: “Crazy Joe Scarborough and dumb as a rock Mika are not bad people, but their low rated show is dominated by their NBC bosses. Too bad!”

I can attest to the fact–as a daily viewer for many years–that Joe isn’t crazy, nor is Mika dumb.  In fact, Mike is very bright and her family dinner conversations while growing up points to that fact.  Had her father been alive the mentally unhealthy man in the White House would have suffered a most powerful response today.

As to the ratings question Morning Joe had its “highest rating ever in the time period in the key demographic last quarter”.

Telling the truth makes mentally ill people troubled.   Trump has proved that this morning in a most stunning and embarrassing fashion.

What Really Happened Between Donald Trump, the Hosts of Morning Joe, and the National Enquirer

Though I have been away for several days due to some family matters I probably need not have to write that what Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarboroug had to endure this week was truly incomprehensible.  Not for the first time do I write that there is something most flawed, troubling, and diseased about Donald Trump.   He is seriously sick, mentally unsound, and a true threat to this nation.  And I am 100% sure I will be able to say in time “I told you so” after the three-thumb crowd in the nation have finally come to see what the majority already know.

To fill in some of the background on the mess that is now this nation’s politics I offer this article from New York Magazine.

This morning in a Washington Post op-ed, Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski disclosed that White House officials offered to spike an Enquirer story about their romance if the pair apologized to Trump for the show’s critical coverage. In recent months, Scarborough and Brzezinski have questioned Trump’s mental state and fitness for office. They elaborated on the op-ed on MSNBC this morning. Morning Joe regular Donny Deutsch said it was “blackmail” for Trump to use a hit-piece in the Enquirer to extract an apology from media critics. Trump then tweeted a quasi-confirmation of the behind-the-scenes conversations, saying that Scarborough called to enlist his help to kill the story. Scarborough called Trump’s version a “lie,” tweeting that he never spoke to the president.

According to three sources familiar with the private conversations, what happened was this: After the inauguration, Morning Joe’s coverage of Trump turned sharply negative. “This presidency is fake and failed,” Brzezinski said on March 6, for example. Around this time, Scarborough and Brzezinski found out the Enquirer was preparing a story about their affair. While Scarborough and Brzezinski’s relationship had been gossiped about in media circles for some time, it was not yet public, and the tabloid was going to report that they had left their spouses to be together.

n mid-April, Scarborough texted with Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner about the pending Enquirer story. Kushner told Scarborough that he would need to personally apologize to Trump in exchange for getting Enquirerowner David Pecker to stop the story. (A spokesperson for Kushner declined to comment). Scarborough says he refused, and the Enquirerpublished the story in print on June 5, headlined “Morning Joe Sleazy Cheating Scandal!”

The Morning Joe co-hosts decided to talk about the episode a day after Trump inaccurately tweeted that Brzezinski attended a New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago “bleeding badly from a face-lift.” (A photo from that evening backs up Scarborough and Brzezinski’s denial of this.) While the Enquirer denies that Trump encouraged Pecker to investigate the MSNBC hosts, Trump himself has pushed the story publicly. Last August, he tweeted, “Some day, when things calm down, I’ll tell the real story of@JoeNBC and his very insecure long-time girlfriend, @morningmika. Two clowns!”
