Rush Limbaugh Stokes Racial Fire

Entertainer Rush Limbaugh should know better.  What he has been doing on his radio show today is deplorable.

He should care more about the larger issues in our democracy than the narrow-minded scope of his conservative thinking.  If anyone sat and listened objectively to the words from General Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama, it would be evident that some serious thought was given to his views.  There is no evidence anywhere to suggest that Powell’s endorsement was for anything other than policy, and the need for a better future for all of us.  For Limbaugh to suggest otherwise is playing with a dangerous element of racism that the entire nation needs to condemn.  Rush Limbaugh knows better than to promote this tactic on his radio show.  It is tough to be on losing side of the election but please, Mr Limbaugh, do not try and take the country with you when your political party and views fall.

Conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh Monday strongly defended his recent remark that Colin Powell endorsedBarack Obama largely because of race, and lashed out at members of the media and Democrats for appearing to take issue with his comment.

“So what if it’s race?” Limbaugh said on his radio show. “Why is it so hard to admit that it’s race…What’s so problematic about admitting it?”

Limbaugh’s original comments came in an email to Politico reporter Jonathan Martin Sunday, when the talk-radio host took issue with Powell’s contention that his endorsement of the Illinois senator did not have anything to do with the color of his skin.

“Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race,” Limbaugh wrote in the e-mail. “OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I’ll let you know what I come up with.”

The comments immediately caused a stir on several Democratic blogs and an Obama campaign spokeswoman called them “disgusting.” They were also heavily reported on several news programs Sunday night and Monday morning. But Limbaugh made clear Monday he is not backing down from them.

“I thought it should be about race,” he said. “I thought you liberals thought this was a historic candidacy because finally we are going to elect a black guy…why hide behind this, why act like it’s not about race?”

“This was all about Powell and race, nothing about the nation and its welfare,” Limbaugh added. The talk radio host also criticized members of the media for not addressing his claim that Powell likely hasn’t endorsed white candidates who, according to Limbaugh, have similar political leanings and experience as Obama.

Great post. Rush is playing right into Obama’s hands as the last thing that McCain needs is 2-3 days of the Colin Powell story. McCain needs to get to a new page if he had any chance to win. And he does not. You have seen the polls. Rush never wanted McCain to win, and though this looks like he is defending McCain, he is really hoping to defeat someone who is not conservative enough for him.

While his #1 reason may not be race it does play into his decision to support B.O., it’s the reason so many people who have never voted are voting for him.

This whole election the far left has played the race card, they and they alone have made this election about race and when they get called out the get all whiny and bitchy about it.

Too bad that is what you wanted this election all about and that is what you are getting.

  3. The race card is the only thing the GOP has left to use. To dredge up fear is all your side knows what to do. You have no issues. You have no more to offer except fear, and you use that with the race card.

Your sense of what society was saying in this election contest all year long has been so wrong. Perhaps you might look in the mirror and see what everyone else does.

If in the far left’s perception Rush Limbaugh is “Stoking Fire” by playing the race card, then where is the “outrage” by the left when the writer/creator of the Family Guy cartoon and Madonna show images comparing John McCain to Hitler???

    Double Standard?? You bet….
