Wisconsin Republicans Know They Have A Fight On Their Hands With Recall Efforts

And they are off……

Here’s another sign that some folks may be getting mighty nervous about the Dem drives to recall Wisconsin GOP state senators: I’m told that a major national Republican polling firm is in the field in the state testing some hard-core anti-union messages, including ones about how pro-union forces targeted a GOP state senator with death threats. It’s another sign that the Wisconsin standoff has escalated further into a protracted, high-stakes national war.

The GOP firm, Public Opinion Strategies, is doing a poll to gauge public sentiment about the effort to recall State Senator Alberta Darling, a top target of Democrats, a source familiar with the poll confirms. It’s unclear who’s paying for the poll, but it’s clearly being paid for either by Darling herself (her campaign didn’t return calls) or by outside conservative groups that are now spending money in the state to defend embattled GOPers being targeted by the recall drives.

The poll amounts to a fairly standard testing of negative messages — but the harshness of the anti-union messages being tested suggests that some of the GOP senators and their defenders may know they’ve got an extraordinarily tough fight on their hands. Indeed, in another sign of just how high the stakes have gotten, another recall target, GOP state senator Randy Hopper, has also recruited national campaign talent to help fend off the recall drive.

I thought it interesting that this mornings LaCrosse Trib was quoting the Walker guy at the Capitol still claiming “Multi Millions of damage”.

My take on this is that GOP spin doctors want the inflated $ number to use in their ad blitz in the coming months.

You know,in this digital age I have dozens of pics on my computer of the latest grandkid’s birthday party at Chuckie Cheese…. But no pictures of the $7 million dollar damage or restoration? Pictures like these MUST be available for the State Historical Society. These are historical events in a historical building.

    SHOW US THE PICTURES!!

Not likely. This is just another “Big Lie” they will continue to repeat.

  2. Irv,

    Well stated.

On top of all that some unions said they would show up and fix the problems that are claimed to exist at the Capitol…..DOA….last I heard this past week….had not responded to the offer.

The lawn is really the major problem….it is in need of repair given the spring like thaws and countless foot traffic….but other than that I can say fronm first-hand observations that that the rest of the ‘repairs’ are just not factual. Perhaps a stone here or there with some tape ‘acids’….but nothing like what is being decribed.

But like the Iraq War and WMD’s……if one says it enough it becomes the ‘truth’.

I agree about the lawn. I was up on the Sunday that the Postal Workers were there. The lawn was getting pulverized.

    So watch out for this:
They recommend a $2 million fence around the square (to save the the lawn dontchaknow) and rename it Fort Walker.

Watch out for the snakes. Mississippi is the model being pursued.

  4. The present day GOP has got to be the most ridiculously ignorant political party in existence. They are beyond stupid, and their strategy (if there indeed is one) escapes even a tiny grain of logic. These morons have taken a professor like William Cronon from UW and made an enemy of him. Cronon is an independent voter with some centrist leanings, and they want to try and bully him? He could be an ally to them if they’d use some common sense forsight in their dealings and in their policy making/implementation. Good luck to the GOP with swaying numbers into their favor to rescue them from the brink. I am fed up, I am sick to death, I am tired beyond belief with the hard right agenda in this country. It needs to end now and forever.
