There is no way not to be horrified by the senseless shooting that took place last night at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, one of the nation’s oldest black churches, in Charleston, South Carolina, and claimed the lives of nine people during an evening of peaceful prayer.
Simply gut-wrenching.
The fact remains that guns are the means that too many hate-filled and disturbed people use to commit bloodshed.
The facts of this apparent hate crime remain under investigation, and there is still a lot that we don’t know. What we know is that every day 88 lives are lost in shootings across our nation, and that most of these tragedies are preventable through sensible solutions that just keep guns out of the wrong hands: solutions like expanding Brady background checks on all gun sales and shutting down the small number of ‘bad apple’ gun dealers that supply almost all crime guns.
It is up to the rank-and-file folks like you and me to call our leaders and demand changes.
The nine who died deserve at least that from us.
I agree we must keep the guns out of the wrong hands but that does not mean we punish law abiding citizens. I know you will think this is a statement of simplicity again ,but that is how simple it is you do not punish all because of a few.
